This is MP 5; CN 60520-21. Michael, «A comparison», 32-33, suggests a possible common source in a proverb, but Menéndez Pidal's argument for direct derivation from the Alexandre seems to me to be very strong. On the other hand, Michael is clearly right in rejecting Menéndez Pidal's view that MS P of the Alexandre may reflect at this point the results of transmission by juglares.
